Welcome to CyHosp!

Hey there! In Cyprus's booming hospitality scene, where tourism drives over 20% of the economy, leading teams effectively can make or break a season—I've learned that the hard way over a decade in the industry. I'm Maria Englezou, Assistant Hotel Manager specializing in operations, HR, and people leadership in luxury and large-scale settings. This blog is my dedicated space to share well-researched trainings, manuals, practical tips, and insights from the hospitality sector, all backed by thorough research, reliable sources, and my hands-on experience to help you navigate it successfully.

Whether you're a new supervisor in a Protaras resort, an HR lead tackling labor laws, or a seasoned manager seeking fresh strategies, CyHosp is here for you. After managing a 100-person team through a chaotic summer rush, I realized how few practical, Cyprus-specific resources exist—that's why I created this blog to bridge the gap with real-world advice.

Maria Englezou Hospitality Professional
Quick Intro to Me

Based in Protaras, I bring a strong foundation in hospitality with a focus on driving team excellence, operational efficiency, and organizational growth. My education includes a Bachelor's in Hotel, Tourism, and Event Management from the European University of Cyprus (2022, magna cum laude) and a Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the Higher Hotel Institute of Cyprus (2021, magna cum laude). I earned the Best Awarded Thesis in 2021 for my research on "The Significance of the Role of Trade Labour Unions in the Cypriot Hospitality Industry." I also gained international perspective through the Erasmus+ program at Tampere University of Applied Sciences in Finland (2020). Currently, I'm pursuing a Master's in Human Resource Management in Limassol to deepen my expertise.

My career spans over a decade, starting in entry-level roles and progressing to supervisory and management positions in Cyprus and Australia. Highlights include leading teams of up to 100 staff across multiple sites, driving significant sales growth, earning awards for leadership and quality performance, and handling high-volume operations in premium environments. In Australia (2023-2025), I supervised daily operations under strict compliance frameworks, focusing on staff coordination, service consistency, and customer relations. Back in Cyprus since 2025, I've been managing full-spectrum operations, HR functions, and compliance in dynamic resort settings. Key strengths include HR operations, recruitment, performance management, conflict resolution, health & safety compliance, labor law awareness, cross-departmental coordination, guest relations, and team leadership—with basic proficiency in HR systems and MS Office. Languages: Greek (native), English (advanced), Russian (basic)—essential for diverse guests.
